Why You Should Stop Following The Herd Mentality Right Now?
Do you find it impossible to make decisions on your own? Do you easily get influenced by your parents, friends, colleagues, and spouse when it comes to making all the important decisions of your life? Do you at all times feel you are not able to voice your opinion when you are operating in a group? Do you find yourself following the majority when it comes to taking a stand on major issues? Do you think you are afraid of doing things that are out of the box?
This is something that remains true for a majority of people and yet is something that we all do not feel requires too much attention. We go about life doing things that are accepted by the society, things that most people do and especially those things that do not tend to break the norms of the society. We spend most of our life doing all those things that are prescribed by the society. What we forget to do is to make it a point to ask our self what is it that we really wish to have in our life? We take others opinion; we make it a point to get counseled so that we make the right career choice, we make it a point to take all the style pointers from sources outside us, in order to make our-self look good, we take every opinion from outside and follow what everyone else is doing. But, it never occurs to us that what we really need to do is to ask our self what we really want and what we really need to do?
If you tend to take all your decisions by assessing what people are doing and what they will have to say about it, here are the reasons why you should stop mimicking what others are choosing to do and make your own unique decisions.
Why You Should Stop Following The Herd Mentality Right Now?
#1. Don’t Do What Others Are Doing
The most important reason why you should stop following the herd mentality right now is that you do not want to do all those things that others have chosen by keeping in mind their private likes and dislikes. When we follow a herd mentality, we often mimic decisions that other people have taken and all of those decisions have nothing to do with our preferences. Mimicking others decisions is never going to give us the satisfaction that a choice made by us keeping in mind our true preferences is going to do. This the reason why you should make sure that you are not at all following the crowd and choose to walk on your own path even when there is no one else willing to walk along with you.
You surely will not want to live all your life choosing the career and experiencing the adventures that were based on the preferences of other people.
#2. Shut Out The Noise Outside
Please make sure that you make an effort to not let the millions of the voices outside cram your mind to such an extent that you can no more listen to the voice inside you. This voice within is the one you are supposed to be paying attention to. This is the one which will let you know what you resonate with the most.
But, we tend to get lost in the noise created by the outside world to such an extent that it becomes impossible to make a distinction between what we really wish to do and what the world thinks we should do. This is true not only for all the life decisions we make but also how we choose to live our lives.
For once it is essential to make sure that we are able to quite all the noise and listen to the true voice that is coming from within. For this, we will have to make sure we give up the herd mentality and learn to listen and trust the voice inside.
#3. To Gain True Satisfaction In Life
When we follow the herd mentality and take decisions, when we make a choice by mimicking others, we tend to do things, but unfortunately, that does not feel like progress. We keep on living a life and do not ever make sure we are living a meaningful life. This is the reason when we follow the herd and choose to do things the way they are doing; we are not able to be happy and often feel the lack of meaning in our own life. We keep looking at the way others lives are panning out and try to remodel our life like that. In the end, we are not satisfied and are not able to be happy.
This is the reason we will need to stop following the herd and make sure we do something to choose those things that add meaning to our lives and give us true happiness. It is absolutely no point going on living without for once knowing what is it is that you really love to do the most and what is that thing that makes you come alive.
#4. It May Turn Out To Be Better Than What You Think
The main reason why a lot of us find it hard to make a decision that is different from what the rest of the world is making is that of the fact that we all have this fear of not being accepted by the society and the fear of not being able to fit in. We need to understand the fact that it really is not going to make us happy if we are able to fit in but into the wrong crowd. We need to find that place where we are happy and all those accept us that way we are, are the ones we need to be with. We cannot keep following a crowd that too without giving a thought to how it will feel along the journey. Where we go wrong is that we keep our eye on how popular it is going to make us when we do things that people want to see us doing. Or those that others are appreciated for doing. We forget the fact that we may be able to reach greater heights when we take the decision of following our own heart and doing all those things that we are the best at.
#5. What You Feel Is Of More Importance
We need to realize the fact that we just cannot make everyone happy. We have to make our self-unhappy if we want to make the rest of the world happy. What is very crucial for us to keep in mind is that idea that when we think about how we can make our mark in the world, it is not about finding ways to make others happy. It is about choosing to that thing which we are best at and making the best possible use of the talents we have. It is about making our mark in the world but at the same time feeling good about doing so.
When we choose to follow what people are doing without taking into account how we are going to feel when we are doing the same thing, we end up making the wrong decision and make a choice that is not by any chance going to help us make the best of our talents.
