How To Help Your Daughter Deal With PCOD

PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) also known as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is that kind of disease that can cause a huge amount of hormone imbalance in the entire body. This is experienced by a lot of young girls in their teenage years and is the cause of a lot of body change taking place due to this syndrome. If you tend to have this kind of a disease that leads to a complete disruption of the natural growth, it can prove to be very emotionally challenging to accept the consequences.

PCOD can cause a lot of unwanted changes in the body of a growing up girl that will appear to be unusual and thus, is a challenge to accept and deal with them. The major effects of PCOD include a large amount of weight gain. Due to hormonal imbalance, this is one of the most prominent side effects of PCOD. Apart from these, excess hair growth on the body, dark patches on the neck and the underarms, irregular periods and acne are other common symptoms of the disease which may cause infertility in some women, if not sure in time.

Keeping in mind the fact that our teenage years are those years when we have the most amount of body image issues, we tend to be very conscious of the way we look and the way we present our self. Thus, it is defiantly going to be a major drawback for all those who have to deal with the added pressures of having PCOD.

This can prove to be very emotionally challenging for a teenage girl whose biggest dream then is to appear to be the best-looking individual wherever she goes. This is the reason why it will be very crucial for the parents to be immensely supportive and help their child get through this phase. What is essential to keep in mind is the fact that it will not be possible for your daughter to see things the way you can see them. You are aware of the idea that this is just a very temporary setback and it does not need to be this way forever. What you will need to do as a parent, is to ensure that your daughter is able to understand that some treatment and restrictions that she will go through in the present times will take care of the issue in the future. And if she follows the therapy diligently, she will be able to look the way she wishes to and will be able to do all those things that she wishes to do.

If you have a daughter who is suffering from the disease and you wish to make sure that she is able to deal with the emotional challenges effectively, here are the things that you can do to guide and help your Daughter cope with PCOD.

#1. She Is Not The Only One

The first thing to do is to explain the fact to her that she is not the only one who is going through this problem. This is not an unusual disease; many women get this syndrome and also successfully get rid of it. There will surely be someone in the school or the neighborhood who has been experiencing the same problem. It will be a great idea to make sure your daughter can interact with these girls. It will be a great idea to tell her about those people who have experienced the same problems and have emerged successful out of the same.

During such times it becomes impossible to imagine that there are people who have more difficult challenges to face in life and these are just temporary challenges. Your daughter may be feeling like the whole world has come to an end and she is facing the darkest time of her life. Being able to connect with people who are facing the same issue, will acquaint her with the fact that she is not the only one facing this challenge and it is not the end all her dreams.

#2. Find More Information And Educate Yourself

It is very important that you educate yourself regarding all the effects of PCOD and also what are the reasons that can cause PCOD. This will help you assist your daughter more efficiently. The sudden changes in the body will not come as a surprise to you, and it will be easy for you to prepare your daughter for dealing with these changes mentally. The more informed you are, the better advice you will be able to provide your daughter.

One of the ways of getting rid of PCOD is to make sure that if your daughter is obese, she will have to lose weight. In a majority of the cases, losing weight has helped in healing PCOD. You will get to know such things in case you keep track of the information available regarding PCOD. If you are looking at helping your daughter, you will have to be well informed yourself.
